Finale - Presentation Board

After coming out with our final solution - INDEPENDENT STICK, we made a presentation board to introduce this product. Based on the product rendered by Joven and colour scheme chosen by Yenyee, I arranged this layout and typed out an introduction, some elaboration of our problem and the features our our product.

I used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to complete the adjustment and clip art.

After a round of consultation with our beloved lecturers, it seems to have a lots of corrections.
1.Typo error
2.Should use more design terminology
3.Do not purposely compress the content
4.Add subject title for each category
5.Scan the sketches instead of taking picture
6.Draw appropriate clip art to present the meaning
7.Focus mistake and et cetera
8. Too many font types.

I shall make another presentation board after the corrections.

Features of GPS

There are some features of GPS that we could have include in our upcoming mobility aid as the more functions we include the more different group of elderly we can help.

As different elderly's condition requires different features to overcome their problem.

Based on some online research, I think some are useful to include in our mobility aid:

Waze is designed to detect the condition of traffic whether there is a jam or accident going on.
Instead of the road traffic maybe we could feature a condition of pedestrians path so the elderly can avoid using the path which have a lots of crowd.
Glympse is another apps designed based on GPS which allow the user to share their location . It is very useful for elderly with light Alzheimer disease so the respective guardian can look for them easily if they got lost.
Taxi Magic allows user to find taxi based on their location and online booking. This is useful too cause elderly might easily get lost in the newly constructed city. They can quickly grab a cab to go back home without mention their location address.
Lookout Security and Antivirus  should be useful too as the elderly might misplaced their mobility aid. What if it is expensive? We have to find it back.

The Final SOLUTION

By combining the features of 2 solutions , a new mobility aid is invented. The wheelchair with magnetic levitation is eventually eliminated based on high technology used cost a lot and not easy in maintenance.

Features of the newly invented mobility aid:

1Hand grip’s material is cool gel to defeat sweaty palm and prevent slippery.
2.Global Positioning System is used to direct way.
3.    Round bottom design encourage smooth walking and does not stuck in drain’s cap.
4. Surface made of reinforced tyre texture.
5. Paddle can be used to lift up foot on to another platform.
5.    Light.
6.    Low cost.
7.    Easy to operate.

The new mobility aid introduced is named Independent Stick as the intention of designing this tool is to encourage elderly to step out in this crowded city and move around independently.

Possible but fantasy Solution

Solution 1
One of my group member design:

Magnetic Levitation is used to avoid the friction with floor so it can overcome all terrain.

Solution 2
Another  member's work

Reinforced tyre is use ( typical race car tyre) and GPS is attached to the
motorised wheelchair so it is useful for elderly to choose a better path or
elderly with Alzheimer .

 The FINAL WEAPON...

Coming soon...

Interview with MR.WONG

We did interview at Rochor Centre last week with Mr Wong.
Mr Wong is selected as his characteristic match our persona, who is supposed to be 70 years old, has difficulty in walking, stays nearby and usually has no accompany.

We had design a series of question to understand their opinion better on the upcoming design,
the following is the record of our interview:

Thank you very much in getting in touch with us and taking part in this interview. We are current diploma student from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts who are working on a project to invent a mobility aid which will widely accepted by the elderly and decrease the difficulty of their mobility. Please let us know if you do not want to answer or have doubt with any of the following questions. We will start now and the interview is about 15 minutes.
Interviewer: What are the obstacles faced usually during the travel from your house to this hawker        centre?
Interviewee: Too many people surround me. Too far from my house. Tiring.

Interviewer: How do you feel to move around this area when the place is crowded?
Interviewee: Very dangerous. I almost fall down last time when someone accidentally pushed me.

Interviewer: Where is the furthest place you will go in Bugis area?
Interviewee: Probably Guan Yin Temple.

Interviewer: Have you ever get any accident when traveling around this area? If so, would you like to share the experience with us?
Interviewee: I fell down once in the wet market but the shop owner quickly helped me and no serious injuries caused.

Interviewer: If you are going to own a new mobility aid, would you prefer a manual tool or motorized device? We would like to listen to your reason of making this choice too.
Interviewee: A manual one will be good enough. I probably cannot afford a motorized one and it is very hard to operate.

Interviewer:  What do you think is the disadvantage of the current mobility aid that you are using?
Interviewee: The support quite weak. Sometime I found no difference even though I was using it.

Interviewer: What do you like about the current mobility aid that you are using?
Interviewee: Light , handy and cheap.

Interviewer: Thank you very much. Your responses are very useful to us!
Interviewee: My pleasure!

W e really thank the help of Mr Wong in fulfilling the session.
